Job Summary

The Cabling and Fiber Installation Technician is pivotal in the successful implementation of clients' physical communication infrastructure. Responsibilities include the installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting of various cabling systems, with a particular emphasis on fiber optics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install and terminate fiber optic and copper cabling in commercial and industrial environments, adhering to industry best practices and safety standards.

  • Conduct fiber optic splicing, testing, and troubleshooting using specialized tools and equipment (OTDR, fusion splicer, etc.).

  • Implement cable support pathways such as trays, conduits, and J-hooks.

  • Route cables through various building structures, including overhead and underground.

  • Accurately document all field work, including as-built drawings and testing results.

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with project managers, other technicians, and clients to deliver successful project outcomes.


Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 1-2+ years of experience in structured cabling installation, with a preference for fiber optic expertise.

  • Knowledge of telecommunications industry standards and codes (NEC, BICSI).

  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and industry-specific testing equipment.

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry certifications (e.g., BICSI Installer 1, Certified Fiber Optic Technician)

  • Experience with aerial (bucket truck) and/or underground cable installations.

  • Familiarity with access control or security system installations.


Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

  • Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, and in various indoor and outdoor environments.

  • Willingness to travel to client sites within the service area.
